Abstract:  Cyclopides in the National Park of the Apuseni Mountains. I. Acanthocyclops plesai n. sp. and Acanthocyclops balcanicus bisaetosus n. ssp. (Crustacea, Copepoda). One species and one subspecies of the genus Acanthocyclops Kiefer, 1927 are described from the Faßa R¾chitei pothole and the Alunului Cave, respectively (Apuseni Mountains, NW Romania). Acanthocyclops plesai n. sp. and A. balcanicus bisaetosus n. ssp. belong to the „kieferi” complex which reunites palaeoendemic species distributed over Eastern and Western Europe. The taxonomic, zoogeographic and ecological statutes of the genus are also discussed. This work, the first of a series dedicated to the problems of the taxonomic and zoogeographic statute of the „kieferi” species complex, is a part of a complex study concerning the subterranean aquatic fauna in the Apuseni Mountains.
