  Abstract:   The methods and techniques most often used in the assessment of the marine environmental quality, based on the zoobenthos, are reviewed and re-evaluated. These methods, grouped into four main categories (univariate methods, graphical methods, multivariate methods, and biotic indices) are examined for their reliability and applicability for the marine pollution monitoring.
