  Abstract:  The book of „Scripta on Recultivation” is dedicated to description of the investigations performed, since the 80’ by the Trier University through its Soil Science Department headed by Professor Dietmar Schröder, along the following four lines: 1. spoils from numerous strip brown coal mines, most of which are located within the Rhine and Wetterau Regions, in the Leipzig and Lausitz (Lusatia) Basins and recultivation of these spoils into arable or grass- or forestal lands; 2. pumice stone mine spoils in the Neuwid Basin and their recultivation into agricultural soils; 3. harbour muds from the Emden harbour and from the estuary of the Ems River and transformation of these muds into agricultural soils and 4. soils heavily contaminated with carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on the territory of a former coking and gas works in Saarbrücken and of a former iron works in Saarbrücken-Burbach and rehabilitation of these contaminated soils. Both laboratory and field investigations were carried out.
