  Abstract:  The First International Conference on "Soils of Urban, Industrial, Traffic and Mining Areas" (SUITMA) was held in Essen, on 12-18 July 2000. Its Proceeedings were published in three volumes which are structured into Introduction (Author index, Table of contents, Preface), 16 chapters, an addendum (City posters and late contributions) and Subject index, and contain 198 papers elaborated by 380 authors from 37 countries representing Europe, North and South Americas, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
