  Abstract:

An ambient air quality study was undertaken in Cluj-Napoca city from October 2004 to September 2005. The data were obtained from three urban monitoring sites, with different traffic volume. The purpose of the study was the monitoring of some air pollutants emissions caused by car traffic, especially the particulate matter and heavy metals. The results showed that the highest PM 2.5 and heavy metals concentrations occurred in the area with the largest traffic volume in cold season for PM 2.5, respectively in summer for heavy metals.

Key words: air, heavy metals, air pollution, urban atmosphere, particulate matter, PM2.5
