  Rezumat:  When we are sick, both our body and our soul feel unsound, because our body and soul complete each other, they are in constant interaction. The somatic pain influences our inward life; therefore we might feel powerless, frail, helpless. This way the illness influences our whole personality. Pastoral care field-work shows that the awareness of illness and the sense of guilt are still closely related terms coexisting in a mythical connection. However, there are different cultural approaches of this relationship between illness and guilt. So the question is why does humanity connect illness and guilt so easily? If we look at different cultures, we see that people tend to approach the connection between illness and guilt in a mythical way: illness and death came to the world by (the original) sin. There are causal interpretations of sin in the Old Testament too, one of these is in the Book of Psalms. Psalms became a common treasure of Judaism and Christianity, telling us about feelings related to our lives – such as suffering, persecution, illness, happiness, gratitude, exultation, faith in God – which are still part of the everyday life of people in the modern age.
