  Rezumat:  The Protestant Reform and the Romanian Religious Literature Printed in Transylvania During the 16th and 17th Centuries. The study focuses on the Transylvanian Romanian printing activity from 1544 to 1696 and analyses it from the prospect of its contribution to the transformation of the Transylvanian Romanian Church and the configuration of an identity integrated within the reforming process characterising the Christian spirituality of the 16th and 17th centuries. The religious literature printed in the Romanian language during the epoch of the predominating Protestant Reform can be divided into several categories. The catechising literature – containing 5 titles (No 1, 3, 17, 18, 22) – was meant to help bring the Transylvanian Romanians under the wings of Protestantism, but its missionary goal, insufficiently supported from the dogmatic point of view, dispelled, while the 4 respective Catechisms printed in Cyrillic characters proved useful to the Orthodoxy in its effort to improve the religious life of its followers. The moral and doctrinary edification literature consisting of the so-called ‘Cazanii’ (sermons on various religious fests and funereal discourse) numbers 7 titles (No 7a, 13, 16, 23, 24, 27b, 28) almost all of which represent Orthodox teachings having the same purpose as the previous category. Although it did not manage to offer a complete translation of the Bible, the category formed by the translations from the Holy Scriptures provided the clergy with all the texts necessary to both their professional development and the Byzantine ritual (The Gospels, The Deeds of the Apostles, The Psalter). This category comprises 10 titles (No 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 19, 20).Among the ritual books 3 are made up of religious services in the Protestant style (No 7b, 11 and 22b), the remaining 5 being Orthodox religious service books (No 10, 25, 26, 27a, 29). The juridical literature, consisting of 2 titles (No 5 and No 21), renders fragments from the Orthodox Canon Law and the Princes’ resolution
