  Rezumat:  For the Cause of the Romanian Language in Maramureş County. Documentary Contributions (1860). The author presents two unedited letters, belonging to high hierarchs of the Greek-Catholic church: one belongs to Alexandru Şterca Şulutiu, archbishop and metropolitan of Blaj, and the other to Vasile Erdelyi, bishop of Oradea. The first letter, ampler than the second one, was written in the 21st of August 1860, and addressed to Vasile Erdelyi by Şulutiu, while the second one, written in 28th of August 1860, is an answer of the last one to the letter of the first one. Both are referring to a petition addressed by a number of 58 intellectuals from Maramureş, most of them priests, to the Ministry of Justice, in the 31st of June 1860, demanding the use of the Hungarian language in elaboration of the land registers from their county. This, under circumstances, that in the 21st of June 1860, the Emperor gave a law which allowed in administration the use of a nationality’s own language in a territory where they represent the majority. The authors of the two letters ask the authorities to reject the petition of the 58 from Maramureş, as being unlawful and to declare it null, and that in the territories where Romanians represent a majority, their language should be declared official, as the law provides it.
