Rezumat:  Mary, announced and anticipated in the Holy Scriptures. Wanting to redeem the world, „but when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman,… that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Galatians 4, 4-5). Both in the Old and in the New Testament, the Holy Bible shows the role of the Virgin in the economy of Salvation. The books of the Old Testament present the history of the redemption, history in which God intervenes directly through the coming of Jesus in the world. Understood in the light of revelation, all the books of the Old Testament are gradually underline the role of a woman: „the Mother of the Saviour”. Thus, she is prophetically sketched in the promise made to our ancestors, after their fall into sin. She is prophesized by Isaiah and Micah „Behold, the Virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Emmanuel” (Isaiah 7, 14; Micah 5, 2-3). She is the shining daughter of Zion, in which the new economy of salvation is settled when the Son of God, the promised Messiah has taken from her His human flesh in order to redeem the man from sin. The line of the promised and awaited for Messiah had had to be a Davidic one, He had to be the king of His age, in order to re-enact the line of justice, peace and fertility (Psalm 7, 27), to offer social and political freedom by liberating the country from the enemies (Psalm 72, 8-18) and leading a victorious kingdom. The Old Testament expectation had been that of a Messiah descending from the royal house of David.
