  Rezumat:  The aim of this article is to reveal one of the most important contributions of the French theologian Henri de Lubac to the ecclesiological renewal that anticipated the Second Vatican Council. It refers to rediscovering the interdependency between the Eucharist and the Church, relationship described through the famous dictum: “The Eucharist makes the Church. The Church makes the Eucharist”. Having deep knowledge about the Church Fathers and the medieval theology, de Lubac emphasizes on the sacramental root of the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ. The Eucharistic celebration is, therefore, the sacramental event that is, at the same time, a manifestation of the Church and the event that built the Church. The Church, during the Eucharist, has both a passive role, by receiving, through celebrating the memorial of the death and resurrection of the Lord and through the Holy Communion, its most profound reality (res sacramenti), and an active role, because it actively participates in the celebration through the baptismal and ministerial priesthood. It can be said, therefore, that the sacramental-liturgical event of the Eucharist stands at the heart of the Church.
