Rezumat:  Both the Order of Friars Minor and Conventual participated inteaching: they had several schools during the ages in Transylvania. Manyyoung Hungarian Catholics had the opportunity to study in the schools ofthis religious order. Among the disciplines, dramatic exercise was part ofthe curriculum, and moreover, there were performances at least at the endof the school year. Two main centers of the Franciscans are important inthis respect: the one in Csíksomlyó (Sumuleu) maintained by the FriarsMinor, and the one in Kanta, maintained by the Conventuals. Csíksomlyówas (and still is) an important Marian shrine of the Hungarian-speakingCatholics of Transylvania. This aspect explains the numerous scenes wherethe Holy Virgin appears in the plays performed at this school. Texts of theplays were preserved and can tell us more about the theological stresses, also about the educational pursuits. Most of the plays performed inCsíksomlyó were passions – this places the shrine in the international chainof European passion plays. The habit was reinforced after the fall ofCommunism, though it is not linked to the Franciscans nowadays.
