Rezumat:  The Crisis of the Discoursive Rationality in Contemporary Public Communication:The Model of the Reified Public Sphere and Its Critics. The present study is a subsequent part of a previous work drawing on Habermas’ theoretical model of the public sphere, which examined the institutionalization phase of the critical public discourse embedded in the social settings of the bourgeois society of the eighteenth and the nineteenth century. The rational deliberative practices that characterize the political sphere of bourgeois society were the evolutionary product of the structural transformation engendered in the private realm of economy and cultural life. The economic and cultural transformations of the European social systems during the late nineteenth and the twentyth century have produced revolutionary changes inside the communication institutional settings of the public sphere. The liberal public practices of rational discourse in political life have been substituted by the “new” advertising techniques of mass communication, which exceeded the economy into the realm of politics and public opinion. Habermas’ vision about the deep crisis of the public use of communicative rationality, wich contemporary democratic societies are confronted with, became an intellectual target for criticism and reconsiderations to his theory of democracy from a large variety of paradigmatic perspectives.
