  Rezumat:  Folklore, as a corpus of assertions and beliefs, has not gone out of sight. It is not restricted to rural communities but may generally be found in urban areas. Nowadays, folklore is not viewed as something antiquated, singular or inferior. It has come to be seen as part of the culture of all groups of people and an essential source of information about the history of human life. The main areas of study include: a) ideas and beliefs b) traditions c) narratives d) folk sayings e) folk arts. This essay deals briefly with the second area, that of traditions, restricted to village communities, and includes compressed material dealing with festival customs, games, dances and cookery.
