  Rezumat:  The Norwegian Foreign Policy in the 20th century. The Norwegian foreign policy in the 20th century can be divided according to some principal events and periods: 1) 1905: The dissolution of the union with Sweden compels Norway to establish its own foreign policy. 2) The first world war – Norway as ”the neutral ally”. 3) The interwar period: still a neutralistic attitude, but some elements of ”Arctic activism”. 4) The second world war – Nazi Germany occupies Norway. 5) After 1945: As a founding member of NATO Norway says farewell to neutralism. But the people’s will expressed through two referendums (1972, 1994) puts a stop to EU membership.
