Rezumat: Joseph Mohr: A Lesser Known Transylvanian Painter from the XVIIIth Century. This study comprises certain data recording the work of Joseph Mohr, a lesser known XVIIIth century transylvanian painter. Joseph Mohr (1713-1784), born in bavarian town of Bamberg, settled in Transylvania, in the city of Braşov, arround the middle of XVIIIth century. His activity in the field of art is known mainly from documentary recounts. The only surviving works from his creation are the portrait of Petrus Cloos, the priest of Braşov`s Black Church, and the altar painting of the Evangelical Church of Hărman (Braşov county). Containing symbolic significance, the portrait of Petrus Cloos is representative for transylvanian traditional portraiture from the second half of the XVIIIth century. The altar painting from Hărman has little artistic value. Joseph Mohr can be considered as a representative painter for the transylvanian saxon cities. Keywords: painter, portrait, baroque, Braşov |
