Rezumat:  The Ölhan Family of Painters – a Testimony Regarding Transylvanian Painting from the XVIIIth Century. The study analyzes the activity and works of the painters from Ölhan family, less known until now. The studies dedicated to the Transylvanian art contain only a few references about these artists. Johann Ölhan senior (? - 1763) and his sons, Johann Ölhan junior (? - 1784 ?) and Joseph Ölhan (1741-1787), lived and worked in Braşov. Johann Ölhan senior was an artist with a solid professional education, superior to other Transylvanian artist from his time. He painted portraits of the Braşov ruling elite (Portrait of Johann Gottlieb Seuler von Seulen, Portrait of Joseph von Drauth). His portraits prove the assimilation of elements specific to baroque portraiture. Also, from his work are known decorative paintings and an engraving made by the german engraver Johann Jakob Haid after a drawing of artist. Johann Ölhan senior can be considered a representative artist for the Transylvanian baroque portraiture. The only surviving works from his son’s creation, Joseph Ölhan, are the decorative paintings of organs from Evangelical Churches of Cristian, Braşov county (in present at Gherdeal Church, Sibiu county), and Codlea, Braşov county. The works of Johann Ölhan junior is known only from documentary mentions.
