Rezumat:  Climatic features of Zărand Mountains. Zărand Mountains lie in Western Romania, being part of Apuseni Mountains. They have low altitudes, usually between 300 and 600 m, reaching 836 m in Drocea Peak. Based on the data from Şiria Cetate meteorological station, covering a period of twenty years (1984-2003), the paper analyzes the variation of the main climatic elements: temperature, rainfall and winds. The average multiannual temperature varies between 8°C and 11°C, 10.3°C at Şiria Cetate (473 m). During summer, average temperatures are around 20°C, but maximal temperatures are beyond 30°C. The hottest month of the year is August. During winter, average temperatures are around 0°C, but minimal temperatures are lower than -10°C and they can get even lower than -20°C in some situations. The coldest month of the year is January. Rainfall yearly amounts vary between 600 and 800 mm, 635.3 at Şiria Cetate. They increase with the altitude, but also towards East. The wettest month of the year is June, while the driest one is February. The snow cover lasts in average from late November until mid-March, but it melts several times during this period. Wind directions vary a lot in a mountainous region. At Şiria Cetate, the main directions are South and North, according to the general configuration of the Carpathians in the area. The speed of the Southern winds is higher than that of the others. In spring, wind speed may reach 40 m/s at Şiria Cetate.
