  Rezumat:  Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of the Water Resources and Requirement in Romania (1989-2001). The Romanian water resources consist of the inland waters (rivers, lakes, The Danube) and groundwater, having a theoretic quantity of 134 billions m3. The main water resource is represented by the watercourses (rivers, streams). The last inventory of watercourses have quantified a number of 4.846 rivers, with a total length of 78.905 km and a total flow of 40 billions m3. After 1989, the water requirement and necessities dropped due to economic recession, sensible decrease of wasted water and applying the new water management in accordance with international law From qualitative point of view, from the considered period, the water features were significantly improved. Considering the limited character of water resources, improving the water quality and creating a sustainable water management has to be done respecting the principles and the objectives of water economy.
