Rezumat:  Climatic hazards during the cold period in the Banat-Crişana transition space. The available data is from five meteorological stations which lie in the West of Romania, four of them in the Western Romanian Plain and Şiria-Cetate in the Zărand Mountains. Four dangerous meteorological phenomena that appear mostly during the cold period of the year have been taken into account: snowstorms, fog, glazed frost and hoar-frost. The data concern a period of five years (1993-1997). Snowstorms are really accidental in this part of Romania. On the other hand, fog is present 113 days a year at Şiria-Cetate station due to its placement, and about 26 to 62 days/year at the other stations, depending on their nearness to an aquatic surface and on the degree of air pollution within the urban areas. Most foggy days are reported during the winter months. Glazed frost appears 3 or 4 days a year on the average at all the stations excepting Şiria-Cetate (almost 10 days a year). It is noticeable that the phenomenon is likely to persist for many days; for instance, half of the cases involved were registered during December 1996 and January 1997. Hoar-frost is dangerous only from 20.03 to 15.10, when plants are during their vegetation period. About 80% of the cases are reported in the last decade of March and April. Though rare, hoar-frost is extremely dangerous in May.
