Rezumat: Henry Jenkins is a major American media scholar, currently a Provost’s Professor of Communication, Journalism, Cinematic Arts and Education at the University of Southern California. He was Peter de Florez Professor in the Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he conducted research on the impact of new digital media technologies in the cultural, social and educational field. Henry Jenkins published the book Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide in 2006 which since then is widely acknowledged as a thought-provoking analysis of the contemporary life. Jenkins’ study provides new insights about media convergence, collective intelligence and participatory culture. Jenkins’ core claim in this volume is that media convergence should be understood as a cultural process, rather than as a technological end-point because “Convergence represents a cultural shift as consumers are encouraged to seek out new information and make connections among dispersed media content” (Jenkins 2006, 3). | |||||||
