  Rezumat:  The history of every science, of every concept is very important to a bather understanding of it. It is also the case of the public relations, as an important part of the communication sciences. This article is not a simple chronological description of the events of the public relations history. It has a central question, that of the differences between the American concept of public relations and the German Öffentlichkeitsarebeit. Together with the historical argumentation, some important definitions of the concept with American and German origins will be compared.
