  Rezumat:  This article presents the activity of some English women involved in the early stages of journalism in England in the 18th century. In this initial stage periodicals offered women the possibility to enter public space and become independent social agents making their own living or even doing business by selling and promoting periodicals. Particularly targeting a female readership, women�s periodicals are often alternatives to the mainstream ones mostly male oriented. Gradually, according to a well established pattern, as journalism becomes a more and more mainstream activity accepted by the whole society not only by an elite, women are excluded from this profession. During the 19th century journalism will be almost entirely male dominated.
