Rezumat: The paper presents the synthesis and liquid-crystalline properties of some new asymmetric bent-core compounds based on a 1,3-bis-(4`-hydroxyphenylazo)benzene central core. The first class of asymmetric derivates were obtained by esterification of some hockey-stick derivates with 4-methoxybenzoic acid and the second one by estherification with 3-bromo-4-methoxybenzoic acid, in the presence of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) and N,N''-dicyclohexyl-carbodiimide (DCC). The liquid crystalline properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarizing optical microscopy (POM). The first class evidenced enantiotropic liquid crystalline properties, while the second one presented monotropic liquid crystalline behavior.
