Rezumat:  The zinc content of some natural waters (river, well, sea, mineral water) and drinking water (tap) has been determined by flame atomic absorption spectrometry using the methane-air flame. The effect of hollow-cathode lamp current, the flame composition and the observation height in the flame on the absorption of zinc in the methane-air flame was studied at 213.9 nm. The best results were obtained with the lamp current of 3 mA, at the observation height of 7 mm, with the stoichiometric flame. The effect of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Al, ClO4-, SO42-, and PO43- on the absorption of zinc was studied too. The detection limit of 0.006 ± 0.004 mg.l-1 was obtained at a significance level of 0.05, using the two-step Neyman-Pearson criterion. The zinc content of waters has been determined with the calibration curve and the standard addition method. In the case of low mineralization natural water the results of two methods agree.
