Rezumat: The subject of anthropology is widely and passionately discussed today: in feminist circles; in the political arena with debates over gender and sexuality, abortion and gay marriage; as well as in the churches and theological academies. In our Orthodox context, we are particularly indebted to Metropolitan John Zizioulas for awakening our theological consciousness to the vital importance of anthropology in a world in which human embryos and human lives in general are increasingly manipulated and destroyed for utilitarian purposes. Over the past forty years Metropolitan John has produced an impressive number of studies on ecclesiology, ontology and the human person. His most well-known contribution was published in 1993, as the first chapter in the book Being As Communion. There he developed an ontology of personhood and attempted to integrate it with Orthodox ecclesiology. | |||||||
