Rezumat:   Utilizations of wind energy quickly spread around the world which results in growing number of wind measurements but not only in near-surface region (10 m) also higher altitude are able to provide datasets. The SODAR (Sound Detection And Ranging) represents terrestrial remote sensing techniques which are becoming more and more popular tools today to exploring wind conditions of a few hundred meters thick atmosphere. The Department of Meteorology at University of Debrecen purchased a PCS.2000-24 type phase – array, monostatic Doppler SODAR equipment which give an unique possibility to carry out 3D wind monitoring in Debrecen. We collect information about properties of wind profile between 20 and 400 m height above surface, parameters and process of planetary boundary layer in order to accomplish objectives of REGENERG HURO project. Our main objective was to discover geographical distribution of wind speed in Hajdú-Bihar and Bihor County in order to promote wind energy in this region. In research we adapted a well-known CFD based numerical model to mapping wind regime, and we used SODAR dataset to make verification of modelled results. The implementation of the research project is supported by HURO/0802/ 083_AF REGENERG.

Key words: wind measurements; SODAR; wind energy; wind resource assessment
