Articol:   THE CURRENT STATUS OF GEOTHERMAL DEVELOPMENT IN ROMANIA.

Rezumat:  The exploration of the geothermal resources began in Romania in 1962, and over 200 wells have been drilled since than, proving the existence of low enthalpy geothermal resources with temperatures of 40-1200C. The total installed capacity of the existing wells, for direct use, is about 480 MWt, for a reference temperature of 300C. At present only about 145 MWt are used from about 96 wells, which are producing hot water in the temperature range of 45-115°C. The proven geothermal reserves are currently estimated at about 200 000 TJ for the next 20 years. Unfortunately the geothermal production in Romania is far below the demonstrated potential. The main obstacle for the geothermal development in Romania is the scarcity of domestic investment capital. In order to stimulate the interest of potential investors from developed countries, and to cope with the requirements of large international banks, an adequate legal and institutional framework has been created, adapted to a market-oriented economy.
