Three key elements were essential in shaping this unholy alliance: a) re-establishing the Russian Orthodox Church under Stalin’s decree in 1943, b) the constant support of local Orthodox Churches and the ecumenical movement, and c) the formation of a specific religious-based ideology. Key words: Russian Orthodox Church, War in Ukraine, Post-Soviet Civil Religion, Church and State, Religion and Politics. |
